CAMP BAND

On Thursday at lunch, Green Acres was treated to a midday concert by The Acre Boys, GA's camp band. The band, which until now was nameless, had their name selected in a campwide vote by campers. The Acre Boys performed a number of songs for their audience of GA campers, including No Way Back, Higher Ground, Forty-Six and Two and School's Out. Everyone at the show totally rocked out, and we all look forward to the band's final performance during week 8!

CAMPERS GET GOLDEN TICKETS... TO WONKA'S CHOCOLATE FACTORY

"Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, the amazing chocolatier. Willy Wonka Willy Wonka, everybody give a cheer...." for the Bears and Eagles unit performance! This past week, both units have been working hard in putting together their rendition of the classic film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. From singing and dancing to line memorization, campers embodied their Wonka characters to the fullest as they prepared for the big show! Congratuations to all Bears and Eagles campers who participated in the play, and whosw performance shone brighter than the golden tickets themselves!

GREEN ACRES THEME DAYS

On Friday August 4th, the camp was asleep... Not literally of course! The theme program was a giant slumber party and everyone came dressed for the occasion! Campers ran around in their pajamas, carried pillows and even sang lullabies.

At the spirit rally, the mascots were sleeping on the ground when everyone arrived. It took the campers’ help, a series of rousing cheers and a call to save the world to wake them. When they awoke, they had to brush their teeth, eat their cereal and run to change into their super hero costumes as fast as they could. Batgirl won in a thrilling victory over the other mascots.

The fun continued on Friday August 10th with the theme of Star Search. The mascots competed in a zany talent show, each with the help of a camper.

MASTER CRAFTSMEN (AND WOMEN) IN THE MAKING

This summer in woodworking, campers have been trying their hands at many different projects. These include making things like bagel holders, banana racks, and pretty much anything that can come from a GA camper's vivid imagination! The avid carpenters also tried their woodworking hands at making gumball machines, trains, basketball hoops and wishing wells. Keep those creative juices flowing campers!

LTP TRIP

The LTP’s went on their second camping trip last past week. During the day, they kept cool from the blazing hot sun by swimming, playing beach volleyball and water frisbee. The fun however, didn't stop when the sun went down. The night hours were full of campfire activities, and our final candle light ceremony which marked the end of our last summer trip. All of the LTP’s and staff had an amazing time, and we are already looking forward to next year's trip!

THAT'S A MAN, BABY

This summer, the Buffalo unit has been trying a variety of different ideas in promoting our Change for Change fundraising efforts. When we reached $200, one staff member dyed his hair blue. Crazy? Probably. But we knew we would have to give our campers even more motivation if we were to raise $400 in funds. This time, two male counselors, both named Alex, volunteered to dress up as girls when campers reached the $400 mark. Sure enough, this goal was quickly reached, and last Friday, both Alexes made good on their promises and dressed up for pajama day in the girliest clothes we could find them to wear!

HOT! HOT! HOT!

The temperatures this past week at GA were astronomically hot! With the mercury going above 30 degrees celsius, there were days when the weather here was hotter than in Cancun, Mexico! With the temperatures hitting such record highs, it is important for both campers and staff to remember to take adequate steps in protecting themselves from the blazing sun. Make sure that you are covered in sunscreen before you start your day at camp, and that your water bottle is always filled. Keep yourself hydrated during the day by drinking regularly - not just when you feel thirsty. Lastly, don't forget a towel - you never know when a water fight might break out!

All-Star

I love being an All-Star camper for many reasons. I love that the counselors are so nice. I love that I get to play with kids of all ages. And I especially love our Friday parties! I look forward to coming to camp every summer so that I can see all my friends and learn more at every sport. This summer I got really good at Tennis because Alex helped me out so much. I can’t wait to come to All-Star as a staff member one day.
