SO LONG, FAREWELL... GOODBYE AUF WIEDERSEHEN...

Well campers, we're sorry to say that another great summer at Green Acres has come to a close. The plays, games and fun times may have ended for the summer, but the memories and the friendships we made here will last forever. Thank-you, campers and staff, for yet another great camp season. We look forward to seeing all of you again next summer!

BREAKIN' IT DOWWWWWWN AT GREEN ACRES

Last week, Justin Timberlake visited Green Acres.

No Really. The Spice Girls were here too. And Jackie Chan popped in for a suprise visit. Jimi Hendrix even came back from the dead for a rousing performance of "Purple Haze."

Ok, well maybe these celebrities were'nt REALLY here, but their counselor impersonators certainly did an amazing job of mimicking their tinseltown personas.

Last week, the Grad Rec Hall was turned into a private music venue for the Camper's Choice Awards. Campers danced the afternoon away to a wide array of beats, ranging from the Carribean overtones of Rihanna to the boppy 1990s tunes of Aqua. Awards were also handed out for the "best dancer," "cutest camper" and the campers most likely to become the next Prime Minister. Regardless of whether they had won an award or not, one thing was certain - everyone there had a blast!

THEME DAYS

On Friday August 17, camp was turned upside down and backwards. That’s right! It was "backwards day!" The schedule worked from bottom to top, kids came wearing their clothes backwards, and our mascots even competed in a backwards relay race!

The fun continued on August 24 - the last Friday of camp - with unit spirit day. Campers summoned all the energy and spirit they could to make the last day of camp one of the most exciting ones of the summer!

TOURNAMENT OF KNIGHTS

This week, Green Acres took a plunge back to the Dark Ages with the Tournament of Knights event. The overcast skies in the early morning hours of Thursday couldn't dampen the spirits of campers and staff, who spent a fun filled day of bowling, tug-of-war, 3-way soccer and scavenger hunting in the indoor refuge of the Markham Fairgrounds. The red, yellow and blue teams all battled with chivlary, courage and honour, but in the end it was the Yellow knights that recovered the royal confectionary chest. Excellent work campers and staff! You have certainly done your king and queen proud.

GA STAFF: BE OUR GUEST

So far, the stage at the Beaver Rec Hall has played host to a large number of camper plays, ranging from the fantasy lands of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory to the Broadway flavours of Fame. This week, however, it was the staff's turn to wow the camp with their charisma and acting skills. On Friday August 24, camp staff wowed Green Acres with an energetic performance, showcasing their broadway talents in a compilation of scenes from a variety of plays, including High School Musical and The Beauty and the Beast. Juggling their camp duties with the memorization of lines in prepration of the play, the performers worked streneously hard to make the play a huge success. Awesome job staff! Way to end off the camp season with a bang!

MyCAMP

The summer at Green Acres was the summer that the MyCAMP program started. My favourite activities included magic ball hockey, rocketry and frisbee golf. I like the way I got to choose my activities each week. This camp is like All-Star but if you don't want to do all sports, it is a great idea! You can choose your favourite sports and your favourite activities. This summer, MyCAMP was only 3 weeks long, but next summer it will run for 9 weeks, and I am so excited! I can't wait to see what new options they will add on next summer!

ALL STAR

Hi, my name is Connor Vella, and I am lucky enough to have been here at All-Star since day 1. The reason I come to camp is because I have lots of fun and make lots of friends each summer. My favourite things at camp to do are playing "Gaga," hockey, basketball and lacrosse. This summer, I loved the "Party of the Future" where we got to dress our counselors up like robots. Hopefully one day, I will be a golf instructor here at All-Star!
