A MESSAGE FROM ROBYN

Happy New Year to all our camp families! Every year, at some point in a conversation about where I work and what I do, I get the usual question asking me “So what do you do the rest of the year?” After a long pause, I delve into the many tasks I have to ensre camp is ready for the next season, often to the chagrin of the person who asked the question and expected a short response! So, for those of you who are curious as to what I’ve been up to… I am
excited to share! The last few months have been very busy with countless staff interviews, parent phone calls, meetings with program providers and goods suppliers, and professional development workshops offered through the Richard Ivey School of Business. I have also been busy researching new program ideas and general preparations for the coming summer.

On top of all the excitement going on here at the Green Acres office, I have been keeping my calendar full and buzzing through my involvement with the Ontario Camps Association and the annual camp conference taking place at the end of this month.

As a member of the conference committee I have been involved in general planning of workshops and guest speakers, timing of events and networking with other camp professionals. Our conference line up and workshop schedule is outstanding! Kevin will be leading a seminar on Ropes Course Safety and Kathy will be involved at the conference as a participant seeking out some golden nuggets to bring home and a resource to fellow camping professionals.

An exciting end to the conference is a parenting workshop open to the public (yes, that’s you!) by Dr. Wendy Mogel. Tickets are only $20.00 and can be purchase through the Ontario Camps Association offices. Wendy’s presentation should not be missed!

You can look forward to our February newsletter to hear a debriefing from Kathy on the conference as well as some new programs that will be launched at camp for summer 2010!

NEW! SPANISH CAMP

This camp provides children with the basic Spanish vocabulary through a "hands-on" interactive learning experience. Campers will engage in a variety of Green Acres programs delivered in Spanish. Great for kids of all Spanish language abilities, from the very beginner to those who have considerable experience with Spanish.

These one week programs are for Boys & Girls Completing Grade JK to Grade 8 and are offered during the following weeks.

Week 7 – August 16 – August 20
Week 8 – August 23 – August 27
Week 9 – August 30 – September 3
