GREEN ACRES THEME DAYS

Every Thursday Green Acres takes full advantage of Theme Days, dressing up in silly and clever costumes. This week's Theme Day will bring Witches, Wizards, and Fantasy Creatures, ready for another spirit rally. Rumors of trolls, Harry Potter, and dragons arriving at camp are spreading and we can’t wait to see what other creatures come through the gates.

Last week’s Theme Day – “Welcome to the Land of Wonders!” – included a Spirit Rally with an edge-of-your-seat cliff hanger for the Beavers, Buffalos, and Bears. We left off with the brave Prince lost far, far away from home, trying to save his Princess from alligators. For the Eagles, Seniors, and Grads it was a race of bad taste with Fear Factor. We are excited to see what Theme Day and the Spirit Rally holds for us this week!

WORLD CUP SOCCER

This week Green Acres hosted the annual World Cup Soccer tournament where Italy, Sweden, France, Australia, Canada, and Brazil played in the camp-wide event for the title of World Cup Champions. All teams played hard and put up a good fight. It wasn’t easy but in the end, Brazil took the Bronze Cup, Italy won Silver, and in first place France took the Gold Cup.

The Sportsmanship Award was given to Sweden in recognition of their good character and commitment to the game. Congratulations to all teams for their awesome efforts.

CKGA 104.9 GREEN ACRES RADIO

So we are a couple weeks in, everything's going smoothly at the mighty CKGA 104.9. Jonathan and myself really are enjoying the fact that it seems everyone is enjoying themselves. Campers are coming often, and in abundance, to request a song (or several) regardless of how many times it's been played. But you know what, it's what it's all about, making their days even that much better. Come over and say hello!

- Mike Way (That Guy)

BEARS AND EAGLES JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING

After days of rehearsals, the Bears and Eagles made a roar at their performance of Disney’s The Lion King. The cast looked amazing dressed as the animals of Pride Rock and the crew put together an outstanding performance from the choreography to the set, the show was fantastic. Congratulations Bears and Eagles, you rocked it!

IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE!

The sprinkler has been a popular attraction at Green Acres this week due to the tropical weather we’ve been having. Temperatures reached a high of 32 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, July 8th and are expected to linger in the high twenties and low thirties through to Friday. Campers and staff, please be sure you are wearing a long lasting sun block or reapplying it during the day, and drink plenty of water! Water fountains are located all over camp, so stop for a drink even if you aren’t thirsty.

FEELS LIKE FAMILY FOR LTPs

Green Acres’ LTPs kicked off the summer with a camping trip to Sibbald Point campgrounds. They spent two nights together, staying up late, barbequing, and getting excited for the weeks of camp ahead. LTP Dylan said, “We bonded, went to the beach, and played group activities.” Although it may have rained, the LTPs had a great time and can’t wait for their next camping trip.
