We are extremely excited for the awesome raffle we are having to benefit our Change for Change charities; Aaron's Apple and Kids In Camp. If you or your business would like to support our Change for Change program by donating an item for our raffle please call Jon at 905-887-1400.

We are looking forward to an amazing evening and we cannot wait to see everyone.

SENIORS SPEND THE NIGHT AT CAMP

On August 5th, 2010, the Senior Unit participated in one of the greatest overnights Camp Green Acres has ever seen… Survivor!

Just like on the popular reality TV show, our faithful host Jeff Probst split our campers into two tribes and they competed in various challenges including:.....We also partook in a delectable feast of burgers to kick of the competition. At the end of the evening at a special tribal council full of marshmallows and chocolate chips, campers voted that Sam from Seniors was MVP of their team and that Kevin the counsellor was also voted as MVP. After both teams made their selection, the winning team was announced and one tribe was crowned - Congratulations to the Seniors Galbot team on your victory: The Seniors Survivors! It’s sure to be an AWESOME night!

INFORMATION ABOUT AUGUST PROGRAMMING

We have several specialty programs that begin in the month of August. So campers, if you are looking for a way to extend your time at Green Acres, this is it! Our D-Phi Sorority Girls camp begins in Week 5 and focuses on fitness, nutrition, girl talk, sports, and crafts. The Head Start program will only be running in Week 9 and focuses on giving campers a jump on reading, writing, math, and science for their upcoming school year. The Tennis Academy beginning in Week 9 allows campers of all skill levels to learn the game of tennis, as well as other great sports and activities. Also in Week 9, Theatre Camp is an awesome choice for aspiring actors and actresses! Finally, learn spanish with our amazing interactive Spanish Camp. If you're interested in registering for any of these programs please contact the camp office.

2010 GREEN ACRES OLYMPICS

This past Thursday was OLYMPIC DAY as well as Unit Day. Each unit put together a series of activites following our olympic theme. The beavers had a great time making medals, learning new karate moves, and participating in a triathalon! The Buffaloes started off their morning with a torch relay and parade of athletes and then played shotput (with giant plastic eggs) and had plank races. The Grads painted some amazing flags and competed in long jump and relay races. Not to be outdone, the Seniors had a staff tug of war, eating contests, trivia, obstacle course, and our favourite... an eating contest! The Beagles showed us their amazing spirit during target practice and no feet soccer. We had an absolutely fantastic day and loved all the teams enthusiasm!

D-PHI SORORITY AT GA

This special program here at Green Acres focuses on building self-esteem and confidence, having girl talks where campers can discuss a variety of topics, and having the opportunity to push themselves physically. So far this week, the girls at D-Phi Sorority have gone on a 2k run around the perimeter of the camp, learned crochet, made dreamcatchers, and gone on the high ropes. Anjalie said that her favourite part of the program is making new friends and Amanda likes that there is something different to do everyday. "My favourite part of D-Phi is that it is all girls," Naomi said. All the girls have become fast friends and we love having this great group here with us!

SADDLE CHAMPS

Saddle Champs is a great program offered here at camp where horse lovers can have the opportunity to learn to ride! Instructor LJ is working hard teaching everyone how to steer, weave through pylons, walking, halting, turning, and of course, grooming! "The horses are so cute," Emily said and fellow Saddle Champ rider Gisele said "I love riding the horses." Everything about the horses is fun but camper Anton said that he cannot wait to learn how to trot! All the campers are doing such a great job and we are so impressed with how fast they are learning. Next Friday is the much anticipated horse show. The horse show for campers riding in the morning will starting at 10:15am and for those campers that ride in the afternoon, the show will begin at 1:45pm. We can't wait to see everything that our campers have learned and to see them show off on their favourite horses; Sage, Dodge, and Romeo.

HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK

This week we are asking all parents, campers, and staff to be aware of proper footwear! Michelle, Jenn, and Audrey are recommending that everyone wears running shoes and socks. They are the best type of shoe for camp because they help us avoid those painful blisters. Additionally, running shoes offer arch and ankle support. Due to the different types of terrain around camp, it is important that the shoes we wear are supportive! This choice in footwear also lessens the chance that dirt will get into any cuts and blisters allowing them to heal faster without the risk of infection. Keep extra socks in your backpack and remember to save your crocs and flip flops for the pool.

SPECIALTY CORNER: Gurlz Club

This week at Gurlz Club we are making sock puppets. I am so amazed at how fabulously creative all the girls are! They are always so spirited and excited for every activity I have planned for them. Seeing them definitely brightens up my day! All the units are so much fun to have. We have had a great past few weeks making button bracelets, origami, butterfly clothes pins and more. I am really looking forward to the next three weeks of camp and all of the wonderful things these gurlz will create!
