CHANGE FOR CHANGE On Thursday, August 19th take the opportunity to help send a child to camp as well as support one of our own campers, Aaron Maretsky, with his charity Aaron's Apple. Aaron recently founded a new charity supporting families who cannot afford drug costs associated with their child's illness. Aaron was inspired last year by the Camp Green Acres Change for Change program promoting "Kids helping Kids" and his own family's experience when he was diagnosed with Chron's Disease. Our Change for Change is also a charity initiative to raise money for the organization Kids in Camp. The goal of Kids in Camp is to help families, who otherwise wouldn't be able, to send their child to camp. Change jars will be placed in all the buses. We encourage parents to help support the cause and to give any spare change to their child to bring to camp. Last month we raised $180.61. Let's see if we can double that! SENIORS AND GRADS PLAY This week the Seniors and Grads put on an amazing performance of Seussical the Musical. The costumes were fantastic, the singing was spectacular, and the dancing was phenomenal. The director David said that his favourite part of working on the play was watching the kids have a great time while building their confidence. Many of the cast members said their favourite part was singing all the great songs! An excellent job to everyone involved! MYCAMP This summer at MyCAMP has been filled with lots of new and exciting musical activities. Aside from our Guitar and Drums activities, campers have been introduced to Camp Rock, Glee Club, and MyCAMP Idol! For the past six weeks, the specialists at MyCAMP have put together amazing performances. Since the premiere of the Glee performances of "Don't Stop Believing" and "It's My Life/Confessions" the hearts and imaginations of Green Acres campers have been captured! These songs have sent our spirits soaring and have tunes that keep our toes tapping. Here comes the sun...no wait! It's Camp Rock. It costs hundreds of dollars to see Metric or survivor and it is impossible to reexperience Beatlemania, but your children have had all the opportunities to re-create the magic of rock and roll. This summer has been a musically spectacular festival of epic proportion. Savour the splendor, live the life, exerience the music! - Lauren and Jamie, MyCAMP |
FAMILY NIGHT AND CARNIVAL This past Wednesday night was our long awaited carnival and boy was it worth the wait! The whole camp was buzzing with activity as campers, families, neighbours, and friends enjoyed Olde Tyme Kettle Corn, cotton candy, and pizza. Our staff did a great job manning the different activities and everyone had a super time playing Whack-A-Staff, getting their faces painted, jumping on the bouncy castles, competing in a giant game of twister, and many more fun carnival games. The highlight of the night was definitely all of the action at the dunk tank. The kids had amazing aim and our dunk tank volunteers did not go home dry! Finally, big congratulations to our winners of the Change for Change raffle and a big thank you to everyone who helped organize this awesome night and to DJ 2legit from Superfly Entertainment.
BACKWARDS DAY Thursday was sdrawkcab (backwards) day at camp! We started the day off backwards by having freezies first thing in the morning and then having cereal after last period. All of the campers showed such spirit and wore their clothes backwards and some even wore their pajamas! We can't wait for our next two Thursday Theme days: Earth Day and Medieval Times! CEDAR CREEK Cedar Creek is always a lot of fun. The main idea is to learn how to ride horses. We have been learning how to walk, trot over poles, and to canter. However, there are many other jobs that we learn how to do. There is the job called "Barn Brats" where we have to learn about all the different jobs that there are within the barn. There is also stable management which includes helping out at the barn. Cedar Creek is a great place to make friends. Our days are a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun. Sometimes kids make really special bonds with their horses and a strong friendship is formed. - Josh M., Cedar Creek

HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK This week Michelle, Jenn, and Audrey want everyone to know the importance of washing hands! Washing our hands with soap and water is extremely important in decreasing the spread of germs from person to person and it decreases the risk of infection and our chance of getting sick. Remember to always wash your hands before and after eating! When lathering your hands with soap, it is most effective if you do so for 15 seconds. Avoid counting by singing the happy birthday song or Mary Had A Little Lamb TWICE. Hand sanitizer is just as good, but make sure you dispense enough product and rub it into all the crevices of your hands and fingers. "Everything is in a touch, therefore, washing hands is everything".

SPECIALTY CORNER: Drumming This week at Drumming we continued to have lots of fun learning about and playing with African Djembe drums. The campers specially loved playing the game "Soldier", where one chosen camper has to guess who the 'leader' is. Campers have also had a chance to play a real drum set. Everyone got a chance to rock out as loudly as they could until we just couldn't handle it anymore! The campers have also enjoyed the "Drum Circle Copy Cat" game where everyone gets to make up their own rhythm and the others have to repeat it. We have had a great week and are really looking forward to week 7 when we'll be playing more Djembe games and learning about rhythm notes and rests. - Muncher, a.k.a. "The Ketchup Man!", Drumming specialist
