CAMP CORN ROAST
One of our absolutely favourite camp traditions is the delicious corn roast that takes place during week 7. For the whole week the smell of fire and cooked corn takes over the camp grounds. Each cabin gets the opportunity to sit around the fire and husk their own piece of corn. The old fashioned giant pioneer pots are filled with boiling water and our trusty staff members are closely monitoring the corn during its 5-10 minute cooking time. While they wait for their corn to be ready, campers sing campfire songs, have fun in the corn maze, or just spend some quality time chatting with their friends. Stella from cabin 39 said, "This is the best corn ever" while Samantha M. enjoyed the labourous job of husking. Once done, campers gather around the picnic table which is prepared with butter and salt and they have a delightful feast. We had a terrific time and are sad there aren't any leftovers.

GRAD GIRLS OVERNIGHT
On Tuesday night the Grad girls got to spend the night at camp! Our mexican themed sleepover was tons of fun. We did everything from make tye dyed shirts and socks to dancing a ridiculous version of the salsa! Robyn played a riddle game called Silly Sally and they went on a tractor ride passing byCedar Creek. We definitely did not starve as we made pinatas which were filled with Hershey chocolate bars, Smarties, Kit Kats and Coffee Crisps. We also roasted marshmallows which were gooey and delicious. We had a great night!

EARTH WEEK
This week at camp we are celebrating EARTH WEEK! All of our amazing specialists have worked really hard to put together earth themed activities. Mike at science quizzed all of our campers in earth science trivia, in cooking the receipe was green frog cupcakes and froggy dip with cucumbers (mmm!), the team from bikes picked up garbage that they saw on their daily rides, and much much more!
We want to encourage campers to remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle! Help keep our camp clean by bringing your lunch in reusable containers, not littering, and if you do see garbage on the ground pick it up. Continue doing this when you're at home or when you're at school. Protect our planet, it's the only one we have!
GA WHERE YOU BELONG!
My name is Jordyn and this is my fourth year at camp. Green Acres is the best camp ever! There are so many activity choices to pick from. My favourites are high ropes and cooking. I like high ropes because it is so much fun, especially where there are huge gaps and it is challenging to get your legs over the wood. The ropes staff are so nice and I always feel safe doing high ropes because the instructors hold on really tight! I love cooking because you learn how to bake and cook and the food is delicious! You can then go home and tell your parents to make it. Green Acres has everything you would want in a camp! If you like sports you can do All-Star and if you like girly activities you can do D-Phi Sorority. If you want a taste of everything, traditional camp is the place for you!

GET CREATIVE AT ARTS & CRAFTS!
A&C is in full nature mode after completing custom flower pots last week and creating our own little gardens. This week at A&C we are celebrating Earth week by making art out of Canada’s most famous icon: the maple leaf. The campers are having a blast painting over leaves like a stencil, and creating awesome patterns on their page. They’ve also been using leaves as a stamp, which makes for a unique and surprising design. It’s been great to see how creative our little artists can get with a paintbrush, and always seem to surprise me, even in week 7! I love to see the enthusiasm and adoration some kids have for the art they do. I can’t wait until next week when we will be making medieval crowns, pirate ships and even eye patches!

HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK
This week our health tip answers the question, "What should I do if my child comes home with a bandaid?" Here at Green Acres our nurses do their very best to clean the wounds using antiseptic solution, polysporin, and bandaids. They encourage campers to return to the health center to change their bandaids after swim and/or if it falls off. Bandaids are used to cover wet and moist wounds and this can become a prime breeding ground for bacteria which leads to infections. You can tell if a cut is infected if it has a yellow or green base, has yellow drainage, or there is redness, warmth, and/or pain around the cut. We encourage parents to clean the cut again once their child has returned home and replace the bandaid with a fresh one. After a scab has formed, a bandaid is no longer needed as the skin needs air to breathe and regrow.

SPECIALTY CORNER: Woodworking
This week in woodworking the kids are exploring their creativity by trying out 'free wood'. They are able to use saws, hammers, and nails to make whatever they please. Campers have made everything from plaques for their rooms to boxes to store their silly bandz! This week the younger campers are making cool wooden key chains. Everyone has been so creative and we are very impressed with how they have been following all of the safety rules. Woodworking has been an amazing experience!
