Special Needs
Green Acres welcomes children with special needs to our integrated camp program. Our integrated program allows campers with special needs to become part of a cabin group and function within that cabin group with the help of their leisure buddy (personal counselor). The camper follows the cabin schedule to the best of their abilities. Where changes need to be made to make our program more successful, the special needs program co-ordinator will work with the child and their leisure buddy to devise a tailored schedule that is better suited for your child.
A leisure buddy (personal counselor) can be provided by the camp or can be hired independently by the parent. If a leisure buddy is hired by the camp, there is an additional weekly charge of $200.00 for this service. The camp hires a leisure buddy based on their experience, camp spirit and dedication to children with special needs. Our leisure buddies range in age from 17½ to 25 years of age.
We aim to provide a place for children with special needs to thrive and build on their social skills as well as their physical skills. We have been very successful with our integrated program over the years because of our commitment to building an adaptable program for the individual child and the willingness of the parent to share information on their child's needs and behaviours. Your co-operation in sharing information about your child with us, allows us to be sure that we will be able to be as successful with your precious camper as we have been with others.
